Saturnalia was an ancient Roman festival in honor of the deity Saturn, held on the 17th of December of the Julian calendar and later expanded with festivities through to the 23rd of December. The holiday was celebrated with a sacrifice at the Temple of Saturn, in the Roman Forum, and a public banquet, followed by private gift-giving, continual partying, and a carnival atmosphere that overturned Roman social norms: gambling was permitted, and masters provided table service for their slaves. The poet Catullus called it “the best of days”.
Ok, so we won’t be going THAT far, but we do have plenty to celebrate!
The ACSJ has booked the banquet room at CHINA STIX in Santa Clara. We are catering the following menu and we ask everyone to pitch in $15 for an all-you-can eat buffet. Unlimited soft drinks included, but you are on your own for the merriest of drinks (alcohol).
Menu Includes:
Egg Rolls; Chinese Chicken Salad; Honey Pecan Prawns; Orange Chicken; Mongolian Beef; Sweet and Sour Pork; Mixed Vegetables with Cashew Nuts; Chicken Chow Mein; BBQ Pork Fried Rice; Steamed Rice
Last year we had an optional “white elephant” gift exchange which was a lot of fun so bring a wrapped gift if you want to play the game. Keep the gifts around $10 in value.
We have had an amazing year as the growth continues at the ACSJ. We want to take this time to celebrate with you and party like it’s 2015!
Hope to see you there! Food is served at 7PM
** We are testing out the payment feature on the Meetup site but they do charge us a fee for each transaction. Like most of our events, cash is preferred, but this online method may be convenient for some members. We will not be able to process refunds for cancellations.
