Today I got a postcard from the ACLU announcing a Santa Clara Valley Chapter Election Event, “Civil Rights in Silicon Valley: A discussion with ACLU of Northern California staff and board members.”
I’ve never gone to an ACLU hosted event but have donated money to them for many years and plan to attend this event given its proximity. Civil rights in SV might might seem like an odd topic but in the past couple of months I’ve seen several instances where police have stopped and interrogated non-white individuals for no obvious reason. In light of our minority status and the obvious bias in how different ethnicities are treated by law enforcement and the justice system I think it is important we are aware of the problems that exist even in our relatively liberal locality.
